(Hartford, Conn./CBS Connecticut) – For awhile, it looked as if this year’s annual free skate event in hartford, Winterfest, wouldn’t happen.

The city had pulled it’s funding commitment as a result of cuts due to the budget crisis.

Following a summer-long fundraising campaign, the iQuilt Plan, which produces Winterfest, is announcing it is a go.

iQuilt Managing Director Jackie Mandyck says while the city’s image has taken a beating in the recent past, that shouldn’t detract from what the it has to offer.

Mandyck says next week is Envisionfest in Bushnell Park.  And there’s a community day coming up sponsored by the Bushnell Theatre.

As for Winterfest, it will run from November 25 through January 2.

Mandyck says they’re still hoping to raise between $70,000 and $75,000 more in order to hold the festival through the month of January.
