NEW YORK (AP) _ Metro-North Railroad, which now serves Grand Central Terminal, is looking to extend the commuter line to Penn Station.

The MTA’s five-year capital plan also calls for four new Metro-North stations in the Bronx.

Under the plan, the railroad’s New Haven line would use tracks already in use by Amtrak heading to Boston.

The director of transportation programs at Regional Plan Association Inc. tells the Wall Street Journal that nearly all the key infrastructure is there.

Richard Barone says “It’s mostly about adding some stations, maybe adding some tracks.”

The MTA declined to comment on the plan. It didn’t say much the project would cost and how long it would take to complete.

The MTA board is slated to take up the plan at its meeting Wednesday.
