Let’s just start here. The two sophomores who are healthy and playing for UConn are good….No, really good…And they played a large role in the Top Ranked Huskies 17 point win over Louisville at a sold-out crowd at Gampel Pavilion. Breanna Stewart pretty consistent and seemingly hit many a big shot when the Huskies needed it. Geno Auriemma said afterwards “she hits three run homers when your down two runs.”  Okay, they really haven’t trailed, much..all season, but you get the idea. And Jeff Walz agrees that Stewey is the best player in the country right now.

As for Moriah Jefferson, another high quality game against a ranked opponent. A career high 18 on 6-9 shooting and made two three’s. None bigger than the right corner three hit to get the Huskies up 57-42 with the shot clock running down. And the hustle play made to save a ball in  play that lead to a Bria Hartley pullup at the foul line was a thing of beauty. She has worked extremely hard and the results are showing up…Plus her defense on Shoni Schimmel shouldn’t get over looked. Nine points on 1-5 from 3 and 4-15 overall. Schimmel said afterwards she’s never seen anyone so quick. Moriah even blew by her with about 5 minutes left on an and one hoop today.

As expected, Louisville played hard and that’s not surprising. They hung around against UConn today and kept the end result very respectable considering what the Huskies have done to most of their ranked opponents. And I like Aisa Taylor. A very athletic forward with nice ups and a good mid range game. The Cards are in good shape once they get Bria Smith back and trust me on this one, the game March 3rd at the KFC Yum! Center will be a knock down, drag out affair in front of a large crowd. The Huskies will need to be extremely prepared for that one.

Another scary moment for Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis today as if she needed another injury…This time the left elbow late first half after getting knocked down on a drive to the hoop. The landing very different from the fall against Stanford…Still looked awkward but unlike the Stanford game, she returned playing a few minutes in the 2nd half that included an assist. The good news, is that she and Brianna Banks have a week to get some rest and re-hab before the game at USF next Sunday.

A brief note on the Women’s BB season big picture in wake of Washington’s upset of #3 Stanford today. There have been more upsets in the Women’s Game than I can ever remember. Question is, will anyone upset the Huskies or that team from South Bend ? Either way, it could make for a more interesting NCAA Tournament. Congrats to the 10,167 for coming out today and cheering on the Huskies for another win…Only 1 game left in Storrs (regular Season) on Senior Day v Rutgers..Yep, only 5 games left in the regular season….Time flies….
