(New Haven, Conn./CBS Connecticut)  –  Police in New Haven are investigating after a reported home invasion Tuesday night.

They say just before 11:30 three armed men confronted the homeowner who said he was in the house with his two-year-old daughter and 13-year-old son.

After handing over what cash he had, one masked man holding a gun demanded more money, according to detectives.

The victim was pistol-whipped when he told the intruders he didn’t have any more money.

He ultimately recanted, saying there was money in his car.

Police say the victim was then locked in the trunk of his car.

Detectives say at one point during the incident, a gun was pointed at the children but they were not hurt.

The suspects are described as three black males, all wearing hooded sweatshirts.

For their protection, police are not releasing the victim’s names or the address of the home.
