Second District Representative Joe Courtney says he’s decided not to run for the Democratic Senate nomination for the seat being vacated by the retirement of Joe Lieberman.

Courtney is a third-term member of Congress who previously served in the state house from 1987 to 1995.  In a statement issued Monday morning, Courtney says he wants to make sure eastern Connecticut has a strong voice in the House in the next two years,  defending the region’s priorities.

Fifth District Congressman Chris Murphy has announced he will be a candidate for the seat,  as has former Secretary of the State Susanm Bysiewicz.  Last week,  another potential candidate, Ted Kennedy, Jr. annnounced he would not run for the nomination.

On the Republican side,  there’s speculation that former wrestling executive Linda McMahon,   last year’s Republican Senate candidate, might decide to run again.
