Author, Poet Maya Angelou Dies At Age 86

Author, poet, and “phenomenally phenomenal woman” Maya Angelou passed away this week at the age of 86. The author of “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” died on the morning of Wednesday, May 28 2014 after reports that Angelou’s health had been declining. She’d cancelled recent events and appearances.

Condolences were given by many including President Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Beyonce, Bill Clinton, and many other public figures and leaders. Angelou’s final tweet was a perfect last word left by the inspirational writer: “Listen to yourself and in that quietude you might hear the voice of God.”

Brad Pitt Attacked At “Maleficent” Premiere

A journalist allegedly struck Brad Pitt on the red carpet at the premiere of the film “Maleficent” earlier this week. Pitt was signing autographs at his partner Angelina Jolie’s movie premiere when Ukranian TV reporter Vitalii Sediuk allegedly jumped the rope on the red carpet and hit Brad Pitt in the face according to Los Angeles Police. Sediuk is also the man behind other red carpet pranks such as kissing Will Smith and hugging Leonardo DiCaprio. Sediuk has lost his job at the Ukrainian channel 1+1 and is scheduled to appear before an LA judge on Friday.

Apple Adds Swagger With Beats Acquisition

Dr. Dre and his business partner Jimmy Iovine are $3 billion richer after inking a deal to sell Beats Electronics to Apple. The makers of the highly popular Beats By Dre headphones will get $2.6 billion, $400 million in Apple stock, and jobs with the company as well. This deal marks an important step in the music world as well with Beats Music, a streaming music service offered by Beats Electronics, possibly being a major component in the acquisition.

Levar Burton Launches Kickstarter Campaign To Bring Back “Reading Rainbow”

A trip down memory lane may happen very soon. Actor and producer Levar Burton has started a Kickstarter campaign to bring his Emmy-winning children’s program “Reading Rainbow” to schools in need. Burton’s campaign for the 90’s show that encouraged children to read has already surpassed its initial goal of raising $1 million, gaining $1.8 million instead. Donations will continue to be accepted on Kickstarter through July 2nd.

The frenzy surrounding “Frozen” is still in full effect as a costume dress based on the dress that the character Elsa wore in the film has become near-impossible to find. The shortage has even caused many to begin selling the dress on ebay for as much as $1,000, making a large profit on the limited edition dress originally priced at $150.
