75 Greenmanville Ave.
Mystic, CT 06355
Mystic Seaport is one of the best museums for a date for several reasons. First of all, it is a living, dynamic museum, rather than a static building. Located on 19 acres on the banks of the Mystic River, the Seaport offers hundreds of things to choose from including a walkable 19th century coastal village, working preservation shipyard, historic sea vessels, demonstrations, performances, interactive events, exhibits, gardens, a planetarium and more. You can also climb aboard your own rowboat or sailboat or cruise down the Mystic River aboard a wooden, coal-fired steamboat. Secondly, it’s mainly outdoors, which allows you both to enjoy the seasonal weather in Connecticut and the soft breezes of the shoreline. Finally, you will learn something along the way, and get some exercise to boot. So put your smart phone away and live life as it was in the 19th century, enjoying the company of the one you are with instead of those clamoring for your digital attention. Even if you aren’t a maritime buff, you will fall in love with the charm of it all.
New Britain Museum of Modern Art

New Britain, CT 06052
The New Britain Museum of American Art in, well, New Britain, is one of the state’s semi-hidden gems. It’s a classic modern art museum in the middle of a city known more for its manufacturing and Polish influences than its art and culture. Founded over 100 years ago, you can learn about all kinds of arts from artists of all genres from John Trumbull (colonial/federalist) to early modernists (Georgia O’Keeffe) to realist (Edward Hopper), Warhol pop art and more. With over 53,000 square feet of space, the galleries are spacious and open and give visitors an incredible view of historic Walnut Hill Park, inviting you to take a stroll with your date after the museum. Your inner hipster will feel inspired by one of the many parties the museum throws including Museum After Dark Parties, First Fridays, Comedy & Music evenings (June 21) and Wine & Food nights (Sept 16).
Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center
110 Pequot Trail
Mashantucket, CT 06338
There are several great reasons that makes Pequot Museum is a terrific place for a date. First, the museum itself is magnificent in design and multi-sensory adventures. The 308,000-square-foot complex takes you back in time and places you into the land of the Pequot Tribal Nation, literally. One of the most amazing exhibits is a life-size diorama where you can explore a village and come face-to-face with its Native American inhabitants. Enrich your visit with exhibits, performances, films, videos, interactive programs, archival materials, collections and traditional crafts by Native artisans. There is also a 185-foot, stone-and-glass tower with amazing, above-the-treetop views of the land. The second reason is that the museum is surrounded by Pequot Trails, where you can get outdoors and not only get exercise but also explore the native land with your date. Finally, it is located within a stone’s throw of Foxwoods Casino which allows plenty of entertainment, restaurants and nightlife to complement the trip to the museum.
CT Science Center
250 Columbus Blvd.
Hartford, CT 06103
The five-year-old, $165 million science center is the mecca for interactive visitation of all ages. Of particular interest to the dating scene is Liquid Lounge, a quarterly party held inside the museum where they turn the entire place into an adult playground, complete with live bands, bars on every floor and tons of activities. Liquid Lounge was voted Best Party/Night Out by Hartford Advocate readers in 2013. Instead of normal museum times, Liquid Lounge is held on a Friday night from 6 to 10 p.m. With 10 galleries among three main exhibit floors, you and your date can build and race your own cars, duel each other with brain battles and explore science in new, fun, interactive ways that will leave you learning not only about science but about each other.
