Using the right resources can save you a bundle when considering your workout budget. There’s even room for savings when it comes to your children’s fitness needs.

An affordable option for exercising on a budget is local parks and recreation departments. The Wallingford Parks and Recreation offers a variety of health and fitness programs at a reasonable price. Classes are offered throughout the week and weekend, morning and nights. Sample classes include an 11-week prenatal yoga for $60, an average of $65 for different level 12-week yoga classes, 13 weeks of zumba for only $36 and $36 for a 12-week kettlebell training or bootcamp.

Obtaining a YMCA membership is a creative way to enjoy group exercise classes with cost benefits. Many classes offered at the Fairfield YMCA are free for YMCA members, allowing you to save with group exercise classes ages 12 and up. Over 40 different classes are offered at this location. Free classes include but are not limited to yoga, zumba, cycling, boot camp and cardio strengthening. Free child care is also offered during your workouts Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

There are only two Crunch locations in Connecticut: Stratford and Norwalk. The Stratford location offers free access to an online nutrition program and state-of-the-art equipment. Choose from zumba classes, pilates, body sculpting, boot camp, tai box and more. Classes are offered morning and nights, often lasting 30 or 60 minutes. After submitting an enrollment fee, only pay a monthly fee of approximately $10 to access the gym and exercise classes. Crunch offeres a month-by-month payment option to give flexibility to members.

INCITE focuses on a holistic therapy approach. It offers group exercise classes including yoga, qi gong, strength and balancing and drums alive. Expect to pay an annual $10-a-month membership fee with a $10 rebate, or $8 a month for students and senior citizens. Classes average an additional fee of $75 for six classes or pay $15 per class. Your first qi gong and strength and balancing class is always free. INCITE will be introducing a kid’s club drums alive class.

Children need fitness introduced into their schedules too. My Gym has created programs tailored to children’s growth and fitness needs. Daytime and a few evening classes are offered for a variety of age groups. Groups start at ages six weeks to six months with $5 Little Bundles courses.
