If you’re ever in need of a conversation starter, just start talking about pizza. We have yet to meet a person that doesn’t have a strong opinion on this matter. But, whether thin crust is your thing, or you’re loyal to pan style, it’s hard to deny the amazing taste that comes from cooking pizza in a brick oven. With the ability to cook crust evenly and quickly for a light and crispy texture, while keeping the ingredients on top fresh and full of flavor, a brick oven pizza is unbeatable when done right. No wonder why so many of them have been popping up in Stamford. So, to help you find the shortest path to pizza-topia, here is a guide to some of the most popular brick oven spots in Stamford.
Nonna’s Brick Oven Pizzeria and Restaurant
Hours: 7 days a week, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
As the most traditional pizzeria on the list, Nonna’s wins for the biggest bang for your buck and the most variety. A great place to grab a slice, pick up a pie, or place an order for delivery. And, with a huge assortment of over 20 pies like the customer favorite, Margherita, or a lasagna pizza for you ricotta fans, plus the option to build your own, Nonna’s is sure to have a pizza that pleases even the most opinionated pizza lover. Their pizza also sports the thickest crust of the bunch, light and doughy like a good New York style pizza should be. Although their sauce could use a little more flavor, when you add fresh toppings and Grande mozzarella on top you have a nice, tasty pie that won’t break the bank.
Hours: Sun-Thu, 11:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. (pizza available 1 hour after close)
Fri-Sat, 11:30 a.m. to 11:30 (pizza available 1 hour after close)
Taking traditional, high-quality Italian favorites and adding a trendy twist, Zaza wins for the hippest atmosphere and the best cheese. The perfect spot for the single ladies and gents or for a fun date night, Zaza is dark and sexy with a touch of class. And, with their thin crust pizzas, you can throw back a whole pie and still have room for their large assortment of wines, beers, and mixed drinks. But, then again, when you add their high-quality ingredients like to-die-for Burrata mozzarella, spicy hot oil, and delicate prosciutto, you may want to order a second pie. At Zaza you can rely on an all around enjoyable pizza experience.
Remo’s Brick Oven Pizza Company
Mon-Thu, Sun 11 am to 11 pm
Hours: Fri-Sat, 11 a.m. to 12 a.m.
Being another affordable option, Remo’s wins for most reliable and most universally likeable. That’s because whether you’re a Neapolitan or New York style fan, they’ve got you covered by giving you the option to order it either way. Not quite as traditional as Nonna’s, Remo’s does not offer slices or delivery, but is great for takeout. Or, if you choose to dine-in, you’ll enjoy their large, comfortable dinning area perfect for families or groups of friends. No matter which style you choose, Remo’s does not disappoint. Consistently delivering perfectly cooked, soft crust, fantastic, flavorful sauce, and tasty toppings, you can count on Remo’s to be your go-to pizzeria time and again.
SBC Restaurant and Brewery
Hours: Mon-Thu, 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Fri-Sat, 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Sun, 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
If you’re a fan of beer and an unpretentious atmosphere, then you’ll love SBC, winners for best beer and hangout spot. What about the pizza you ask? Well, that’s not what you come to a brewery for anyway, right? With incredibly thin, partially burnt crust, bland toppings that seem to be cooked from frozen, and so-so sauce, SBC’s pizza leaves something to be desired. With just seven pizzas to choose from, it’s clear that this isn’t really a focus for SBC. What is a focus, however, is a fantastic variety of over 25 thirst-quenching homebrews, which they more than excel at.
Hours: Sun-Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Fri-Sat ,11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

But even more enjoyable than that is their amazing pizza. With soft crust that is somehow neither thin, nor thick, topped with the perfect amount of melt-in-your-mouth buffalo mozzarella, organic vegetables, fresh Italian meats, and the best, freshest and most flavorful sauce of the group, Tappo’s pizza is simply perfetto!
