ROCKY HILL, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) – State Police say two Middletown men were killed in a crash involving a car and a tractor trailer Friday night on Interstate 91 in Rocky Hill.
Jose Diana, 25, was driving a Volkswagen Golf that slammed into the back of the tractor trailer in heavy traffic south of Exit 24. Police say Diana and his passenger, Mark Nunez, 21, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses tell police that the car was traveling at a high rate of speed when it hit the truck, spun out of control, and came to a final rest on the shoulder of the highway.
A passenger in the truck, a 29-year-old Las Vegas man, was taken to Hartford Hospital. The truck’s driver was not injured.
The traffic congestion was caused by an earlier disabled vehicle, said police.
Traffic was diverted onto the Silas Deane Highway four around four hours as police investigated the fatal crash.
