WINDHAM, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) – Firefighters rescued a 140-pound Great Dane from the Willimantic River Friday.
Police say the 11-year-old dog named Mike slid down a snowy embankment into the frigid waters around 9:30 a.m., near the Windham-Columbia town line.
Firefighters from Willimantic and Columbia helped to rescue the canine. Mike, along with his owner, were taken in a police cruiser to a local animal hospital.
The dog was treated for hypothermia and was expected to survive, said police.
