NAUGATUCK, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) – Naugatuck and New Haven are among the Connecticut towns and cities mentioned recently in threats appearing on social media featuring menacing clowns.
The trend in Connecticut and elsewhere in the country reportedly has some on edge, but many threats have already been ruled not credible by local police departments and officials.
Robbie (Roberta) Pack of Fairfield, a member of the New Sawdust Clowns and an advocate who helps to promote clowning, called the social media posts sad, and said they give the art a bad name. But, Pack says the true clowns will persevere.
“As someone who does look for joy in girls and boys, the art of clowning isn’t going to die just because some people have worked on making the scary clowns,” she told WTIC.
