Former Coventry Woman Charged With Embezzling $400K

COVENTRY, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) – A former Coventry woman is accused of embezzling more than $400,000 earmarked by the Connecticut Department of Social Services for her employer for various social-service programs.

Michelle Labrec, 52, now of Ronkonkoma, New York is charged with first-degree larceny, first-degree identity theft, and 114 counts of second-degree forgery.

During a ten-month investigation, police say they determined that Labrec, when she was manager of accounts payable at Allied Community Resources in East Windsor, funneled more than $400,000 into her personal accounts. She no longer works for the organization.

Labrec is due in Rockville Superior Court on Oct. 6. Police say the case has been referred to the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services for further investigation.
