Connecticut Residents Advised To Stay Vigilant After NYC Blast

HARTFORD, Conn. (CBS Connecticut and AP) – State police and Connecticut Homeland Security officials are warning residents to stay vigilant following a blast in New York City that injured 29 people over the weekend.

Officials say there is no credible threat to the state at this moment but citizens should remain aware of their surroundings.

The explosion, described by New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio as an “intentional act,” went off around 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the city’s Chelsea neighborhood. A second device was found just blocks away.

Authorities are unsure if the blast is connected to other explosives found in New Jersey.

Trooper Kelly Grant is reminding Connecticut residents to notify police if they see or hear something suspicious.

But a spokesperson for Gov. Dannel Malloy says that the extra vigilance should not disrupt everyday life.
