Police: ‘Backpage Bandit’ Arrested

MILFORD, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) – Milford police say they’ve arrested a man dubbed the “backpage bandit.”

Police say Jonathan Arzu, 23, of Bridgeport forced his way into a hotel room on the Boston Post Road and, with two accomplices, tied up a woman with phone cord and ransacked the room– robbing the woman while holding a knife to her neck. The incident occurred on July 27.

Police say they’ve been investigating a series of similar crimes involving women who were victimized after offering services through the website backpage.com

Arzu is charged with first-degree robbery, unlawful restraint and sixth-degree larceny. He was held on $50,000 pending arrangement Thursday in Milford Superior Court.

Police say future arrests are expected.
