Daycare Director Arrested In Connection With Baby’s Death

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) – A woman who ran what police say was an unlicensed daycare at her Fairfield home has been arrested in connection with a 4-month-old baby’s death.

WFSB-TV reports that Carol Cardillo, 53, was charged Thursday with second-degree manslaughter, second-degree reckless endangerment and risk of injury to a minor.

The boy died on March 22.

Fairfield Police Chief Gary MacNamara says the child may have been given Benadryl, an antihistamine that is not for children under 2.

The medical examiner ruled the death a homicide and determined the cause to be acute diphenhydramine intoxication.

Cardillo was released on a $250,000 bond. She is scheduled for arraignment at Bridgeport Superior Court on Sept. 15.

It’s not clear if she has a lawyer.
