BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — Metro-North Railroad officials say a work crew recently set a company record for installing the most railroad ties in a single day.
The Connecticut Post reports Metro-North announced in the latest edition of its newsletter that a tie gang working on the New Haven Line laid down 883 rail ties on tracks between Southport and Fairfield.
Metro-North says the workers were able to break the record after a long-term track outage allowed them to start the job earlier and stay later. Additionally, the track ties and equipment was already delivered to the site.
An average Metro-North tie gang installs about 250 railroad ties per day.
