Catholic School Closes Just 2 Weeks Before New Academic Year

(NEWINGTON,Conn./CBS Connecticut and AP)  –  Just  two weeks before the start of the new school year newly-appointed St. Mary  Parish and School Administrator Reverend  Shawn T. Daly  told  teachers, administrators and  families  Wednesday evening  that the  Newington School will close immediately.He says the school would not be able to  sustain itself financially.

There are 109 students enrolled at St. Mary School for the 2016-2017   academic year. They are being encouraged to enroll at the newly-created St.Brigid-St. Augustine Partnership School in West Hartford.  Any tuition assistance that was awarded to students attending St. Mary School  for the coming school year will follow the student to  the  Partnership School.

Full-time teachers with ministerial agreements will be offered jobs at the partnership school. Part-time employees will be hired as needed.
