Twain Home Renovations Underway

(Hartford, Conn./CBS Connecticut) – The Mark Twain House and Museum is in the midst of a renovation project officials hope will help in boosting the number of visitors to what was, for nearly two decades, home to the famed author and his family in Hartford’s Asylum Hill neighborhood.

There are three phases of the project: a guest suite dubbed the mahogany room, a carriage house barn, and infrastructure upgrades, according to museum executive director Cindy Lovell.

She says that includes HVAC work and replacing the home’s original steps after over a century of harsh Connecticut winters.

The work is being funded in part by $2.2 million in grant funds from the state Bond Commission and should be completed by year’s end.
