Legislative Panel To Hold Hearings On Judge Reappointments

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) – A legislative committee will hold public hearings on whether to reappoint more than 30 state judges to additional eight-year terms.

The Judiciary Committee has scheduled hearings at 10 a.m. on Monday and Wednesday at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.

Among the judges up for reappointment is Senior Justice Christine Vertefeuille of the state Supreme Court.

Senior justices are in addition to the court’s seven regular justices and hear cases as needed.

Vertefeuille was nominated by Republican former Gov. John Rowland in 1999 and joined the Supreme Court in January 2000.

Also up for reappointment is Appellate Court Judge Robert Beach Jr., who was appointed to the state’s second-highest court in 2007 by Republican former Gov. M. Jodi Rell.

The Judiciary Committee will review both Vertefeuille and Beach’s reappointments Monday.
