(West Hartford, Conn./CBS Connecticut) – Connecticut is closing out 2015 with the second lowest gas prices in a decade.

AAA reports gas prices on average for unleaded are about $2 nationally.  In Connecticut, the price at the pump is averaging $2.15, 52 cents less than at this point a year ago.

Spokeswoman Amy Parmenter says the national average this New Year’s Eve is the lowest it’s been since 2008.

A worldwide glut in crude oil is one reason prices have remained relatively low this year.

Parmenter says early indications are pump prices will remain on the low side at least for the start of 2016.
