Wolcott Carjacking Ends With Bristol Arrest

(BRISTOL,Conn./CBS Connecticut)  –  A Naugatuck man is facing numerous charges .It  began  about 10:45 Friday morning   when Wolcott Police notified Bristol Police  of a carjacking in their town.

The vehicle was believed to be traveling at a high rate of speed  on Route 69. Bristol Officers spotted it on North Main Street. The  driver  crashed the car  into shrubbery  at North  Main  and Curtis Streets.

The suspect, 24 year old  Shawn Smith,police say, fled on foot. A resident at 24 Roberts Street was backing out of the driverway when  encounterd by Smith.

Police say   Smith  fought the driver  and tried to steal  the vehcle while it as moving backwards in the driveway.

The  operator  and his wife successfully fought off  Smith, who was taken into custody.Both the husband and wife   received minor injuries and refused medical attention at the scene.

Smith faces charges including,Criminal Attempt to Carjack,Breach of Peace,2  counts of  Assault in the Third Degree and Reckless Endangerment.He is due in Bristiol Superior  Court Monday.
