A Hartford man is under arrest after authorities say he stole the identity of a California resident, then pocketed $37,000 in unemployment compensation benefits.

Ignacio Sotelo-Bustos is charged with defrauding a public community.

Authorities say he was not legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Investigators say he stole a social security number and collected unemployment between 2009 and 2011.

Sotelo-Bustos is charged with one count each of larceny in the first degree by defrauding a public community, felony unemployment compensation fraud and identity theft in the first degree.  He is free on $10,000 bond.

He faces over 20 years in prison and over $20,000 in fines if convicted.
