BOSTON (AP) _ State public health officials say 11 medical marijuana dispensaries have been cleared to move forward in Massachusetts while several others have been rejected after a further review.

The process had been on hold for several months while the state verified information provided in the applications of 20 companies that had been given the green light in January.

The nine rejected dispensaries include both Boston applicants and three under the umbrella of a company led by former U.S. Rep. William Delahunt.

The 11 applicants cleared to move forward to the inspection phase are in Dennis, Salem, Haverhill, Northampton, Ayer, Newton, Lowell, Quincy, Brookline, Brockton and Milford.

State officials said some could open in November, others by early next year.

The voter-approved medical marijuana law allows for up to 35 dispensaries.
