(Old Saybrook, Conn./CBS Connecticut) – In Old Saybrook, police are investigating after a burglary interruption led to a stolen vehicle crash and the suspect escaping on foot.

It all started around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Officers say a resident of a home on Mill Rock Road East found a suspect exiting the home with property from within, taking off in a vehicle.

A short time later, police were called to the scene of an accident on Schoolhouse Road in which the car rolled over, the suspect fleeing the crash.

That car had been reported stolen earlier in the day out of New London, police said.

Residents were advised to stay inside their homes while Old Saybrook, Clinton, Madison and the State Police investigated with K-9 units.

Police describe the suspect as a white male, about five-foot-seven, wearing a white tank top and jeans, sporting an arm laceration.

Anyone with any information is asked to get in touch with the Old Saybrook police department at (860) 395-3142.
