SOUTHINGTON, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) –  An arrest has been made in a fatal  Sunday morning fire  in Southington.

Eric Morelli, 18, of Southington is charged with Manslaughter in the First Degree and  three counts of Reckless Endangerment in the blaze that killed 19-year-old  Kristen Milano.

Milano died of smoke inhalation and  her death   was ruled a homicide. The fire was contained to the unit where Milano lived at the Summer Brook Apartments. Two of Milano’s relatives escaped safely.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and police  have not commented on reports someone  tossed a lit firecracker  at  an apartment window.

Morelli’s attorney Raymond Hassett released a statement saying:

“My client, Eric Morelli, and his family are extremely sorry over what has happened. This is particularly difficult as Eric was a long-time friend of Kristen. Eric never intended to harm anyone and he is very remorseful about this tragedy. He has been fully cooperative with law enforcement and will be responding to the charges in court.”

Morelli is being held in lieu of $150,000 bond.
