Mystic Seaport says the scheduled departure of the Charles W. Morgan from New London has been delayed until Sunday.

The delay is due to conditions expected off Point Judith, RI, Saturday, as the whaleship heads for Newport. In a change from previous plans, the Morgan also may pass through Watch Hill Passage, between Watch Hill, RI, and Fishers Island, NY, on the way to Block Island Sound — instead of sailing through the race. The captain will decide Sunday.

The Morgan, the last wooden whaleship, will cast off at 6:30 a.m. Sunday on a nearly three month journey to historic ports in Southern New England. It left Mystic Seaport for New London last month under tow, and has been conducting sea trials before setting sail on its own.

The ship is a National Historic Landmark vessel, built in 1841.
