(Hartford, Conn./CBS Connecticut) – Former state Representative Jonathan Pelto is mounting a campaign for governor.
The Mansfield resident say he’s converting his exploratory committee into a candidate committee.
Pelto says since he created the exploratory committee the response has been extremely positive.
Pelto will need to gather 7,500 signatures to get on the ballot as a third-party candidate.
He says 2,200 signatures have already been collected and he’ll have 200 volunteers by week’s end working toward the goal
Pelto, a lifelong Democrat who has been openly critical of the Malloy administration, served five terms in the state House from 1984 to 1993 says there are a number of issues facing the state.
They include middle income tax reform, education and doing away Common Core and its standardized testing, and ending corporate welfare.
