Segarra Welcomes Rock Cats To Hartford

(CBS Connecticut)  — As widely rumored,  Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra announced at noontime that the New Britain Rock Cats will move to Hartford, starting in 2016.

The mayor said he made the move to help Hartford’s economic development —  and because the team was threatening to move out of state.

The mayor says the Cats have been looking for a new home, and this move keeps them in Connecticut.  He says the stadium with nearly 10,000 seats will cost up to $60 million. It will be funded by the city without state money.

It would be built at 1214 Main Street,  not the plot designated 12B which had been rumored.  The sites are adjacent.
