One Man Dead, Another Injured In Separate New Haven Shootings

New Haven, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) – New Haven police are investigating a fatal shooting Saturday night.

It happened about 9:45 outside a print shop near Winthrop and Whalley avenues.

Otis Powell, 44, was found with several gunshot wounds to his upper body. He died a short-time later at Yale-New Haven hospital. Police are still investigating and talking to witnesses.

Also in New Haven Saturday a man was injured by a gunshot about 9:15 p.m. near 52 Oak Ridge Drive.

Police found Lamar Swint, 26, of West Haven with a gunshot wound to the upper thigh.

Swint told police he was in his car when a man he didn’t know opened his door and shot him.

Police say there was a party going on inside a home at the address.

Police have no suspects.
