Conn. Firms Lauded For Energy Conservation

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Companies from across Connecticut are being honored by the state for cutting their energy consumption last summer.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection on Tuesday is recognizing businesses and institutions that reduced their electricity demand during the 2013 summer season. They must have reduced their power consumption between five to 20 percent, compared to the previous two summers.

They must accomplish the reduction without using back-up diesel generators.

An awards ceremony for the “Summer Savers” program is planned on Tuesday morning at the state Capitol.

The honorees hail from Beacon Falls, Bridgeport, Cheshire, Danbury, Fairfield, New Canaan, New Haven, Southington and Woodbury.
