Vernon Police Arrest Gun Shop Burglary Suspect

VERNON, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) _ Vernon police arrested a man who tried robbing a local gun shop Friday night around 8 p.m.

They were called to Steve’s Guns on Talcottville Road on reports of someone breaking into the gun store. Police arrived to find a male fleeing the gun store out the rear and heading toward the woods. The suspect was located  in a parking lot of the Countrywood Apartment complex a few minutes later and arrested him.

Stephen Redpath, 24, of Tolland, was charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief, possession of burglar tools, theft of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm, and fifth-degree larceny.

Police found a discarded Glock .40 caliber handgun nearby to be stolen from the store. A hammer was also found next to the gun.

Redpath is held in lieu of a $250,000 surety bond and is due in Rockville Superior Court Monday, March 31.
