(CBS Connecticut) — The husband of former Republican Governor M. Jodi Rell has died. State media outlets are reporting Louis “Lou” Rell died in Florida after a battle with cancer.
Governor Dannel Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman expressed their condolences in a statement released Saturday night.
“I was very fortunate to have known Lou Rell for many years,” Wyman said. “He was a man of integrity, humor and commitment, and his passing is a tremendous loss. Lou was devoted husband, father and grandfather, and an important source of support to his family and friends. My deepest sympathy goes out to Governor Rell and her family – we hold them in our thoughts during this difficult time.”
The husband of the state’s 87th governor was rarely seen during her six years in office, sometimes traveling to events with her, but remaining in the car. Lou Rell was a retired airline pilot.
