NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) – A Norwalk man who says he shot his wife to death by accident in Norwich four years ago has gone on trial on murder and manslaughter charges.
A New London Superior Court jury began hearing evidence Wednesday in the trial of 50-year-old Chihan Eric Chyung, including Chyung’s 911 call to Norwich police in June 2009 right after his wife of three weeks, Paige Anne Bennett, was shot.
Jurors heard Chyung tell a dispatcher, “I killed my wife. I killed her. I didn’t mean to. She’s dead.”
Chyung says he and Bennett got into an argument over a fishing pole he bought and he was packing his 9 mm pistol into a suitcase while leaving their home when it went off by accident.
The trial is set to resume Thursday.
