Man Gets 9 Years In Prison For Shaken Baby Death

MILFORD, Conn. (AP) — A West Haven man who prosecutors say shook a baby so violently that the boy died has been sentenced to nine years in prison.

Milford Superior Court Judge Frank Iannotti handed down the prison time Wednesday to 37-year-old Angel Santiago, who pleaded guilty to manslaughter in December.

State’s Attorney Kevin Lawlor said evidence in the 2011 death of 5-month-old Kyle Robinson in Ansonia showed he was shaken, but Santiago denied the allegation. Santiago said Kyle was injured in an accidental fall.

Santiago said he would never hurt someone he loved and he was distraught that he failed to keep the boy safe.

Santiago was the boyfriend of Kyle’s mother, but wasn’t his father. Authorities say he was watching Kyle and two other boys when Kyle was fatally injured.
