Pothole Repair Slows Travel

HARTFORD (CBS Connecticut) — Northbound Interstate 91 through Wethersfield and Rocky Hill slowed to a crawl Friday afternoon as the Department of Transportation crews performed emergency roadwork in the area of the Putnam Bridge.

The right lane northbound has  been plagued by bout a 2,500 foot a stretch of especially bumpy potholes, and things  had gotten so bad that the layers had begun to “delaminate” and peel away. The condition was too extreme for typical pothole patching,   Crews closed the right two lanes through the area in order to mill the pavement, but since asphalt plants are closed, the surface will remain in the “milled” condition, perhaps until April.

Traffic cameras and callers reported extensive backups into Rocky Hill.
