HARTFORD (CBS Connecticut) — The State Department of Motor Vehicles is planning to offer new classic vehicle vehicle standard or vanity license plates, to replace the black and white “Early American” available for cars, trucks and motorcycles that are at least twenty years old.
Commissioner Melody Curry says the white plates with dark blue lettering read “Classic Vehicle” centered at the bottom. To qualify, the vehicle must be at least 20 years old and already be registered in Connecticut. Up to seven characters can be designated by the owner.
Vanity plate applications can be submitted now, and the standard issue plates will become available April 1. More information is available at the DMV website.
Commissioner Currey says the new style of plate is a result of discussions with car club members who asked for a more modern plate.
