Man Shot In New Haven Drives To Meriden For Treatment

(New Haven, Conn./CBS Connecticut) –  New Haven police are investigating after they say a man who’d been shot in the city turned up in Meriden.

Meriden police say a 45-year-old New York man named Chester Mont told them he was shot during a robbery attempt at Smooth’s Barber Shop on Whalley Avenue in New Haven.

Police say Mont told them one of two suspects dropped a gun, which Mont picked up.

A struggle ensued and the gun went off, striking him in the thigh.

For some reason, police say Mont drove first to a relative’s house West Haven before showing up at Mid State Medical Center in Meriden.

There were no reports of a robbery, shots fired, or a person having been shot.
