MANCHESTER, Conn. (AP) _ Manchester police are investigating whether a sidewalk that hadn’t been cleared after a snowstorm played a role in a fatal pedestrian accident.
Police say a 53-year-old man was struck and killed by a car at about 7 p.m. Thursday as he was pushing a shopping cart along Oakland Street. Officials say they’re looking into whether he was in the road because the sidewalk wasn’t cleared.
The man’s name hasn’t been released.
Authorities say it doesn’t appear that speed or impaired driving played any role in the accident.
Manchester ordinances require residents to clear sidewalks within 24 hours after a storm ends or possibly face a fine. A storm that dumped up to a foot of snow in parts of the state ended Wednesday afternoon.
