HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Connecticut’s Department of Revenue Service says it will continue helping taxpayers file their state income tax returns, despite a decision by the Internal Revenue Service to stop offering individual tax return preparation services.

DRS Commissioner Kevin Sullivan said his agency will continue offering state income tax filing help at its four regional offices in Bridgeport, Hartford, Norwich and Waterbury.

Sullivan said the IRS has announced that taxpayers who visit the federal agency’s walk-in location seeking tax filing help will be directed to the closest volunteer tax preparation location.

Sullivan said it was “too bad” the IRS has curtailed its service.

Taxpayers needing help with their state income tax returns can bring their completed federal return and all associated documentation to the regional DRS offices between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
