MANCHESTER, Conn. (CBS Connecticut/AP) _ Authorities are investigating after firefighters who had extinguished a blaze at a Manchester building found a dead body in a bedroom.
Crews responded to the multi-family house on Park Street shortly after 5 a.m. Saturday.
Officials say the owner of the building who lived in the first-floor unit called 911 after smelling smoke. The owner and another resident managed to evacuate without injury.
Firefighters battled heavy smoke conditions and found very little fire that they quickly knocked down, containing it to the third floor.
Three firefighters were treated for injuries and released, according to authorities.
The Red Cross assisted one of the displaced residents with food and clothing.
The Chief Medical Examiner’s office is involved in the investigation.
The name of the victim has not been released.
