GAME DAY- January 16- When the UConn men’s basketball schedule was announced, this week stood out like a sore thumb. At Memphis, 9 PM home to Louisville. Well, the week is here and highly anticipated by all of Husky Nation.

When it was learned that Memphis and UConn would become conference foes, everyone thought it would be a terrific coupling. The Tigers had been dominant in Conference USA, winning the post season tournament three straight years and 7 of the last 8. They are nearly unbeatable at their home, Fed Ex Forum, and that will be a big advantage when they host the first AAC tournament in March. It’s not exactly St John’s in the Garden in the Big East tournament. And it’s not like the Tigers need any advantages.

Josh Pastner has recruited a talented, multi dimensional team. Joe Jackson is the best player in the AAC that UConn fans haven’t seen first hand. He scores, he penetrates and sets him teammates up. The one thing the Memphis native doesn’t do is shoot the three, in fact as a team, Memphis is shooting just 29% from behind the arc. And in Shaq Goodwin, they have a big man who can dominate. He won his second conference Player of the Week honor for his 23 point, 11 rebound effort against Temple. Along with highly touted 6’8 freshman Austin Nichols they can dominate the interior.

UConn is feeling much better about itself after the wins over Harvard and UCF. How does Amida Brimah follow up his career night on Saturday. Can DeAndre Daniels and Phil Nolan compete with Goodwin and Nichols on the glass. How does the star studded UConn backcout match up with an equally talented Memphis group of guards. We will find out at 7pm Eastern.

Our pre game time is 6:30. Hope you can join us.
