State Trooper Shoots Fleeing Suspect

PLAINFIELD, Conn. (AP) _ State Police say a trooper shot and injured a Waterford motorist accused of trying to drive his vehicle at police.

Police say Corey Keith was driving erratically Saturday night on Route 12 in Plainfield and refused directions to stop. He’s accused of leading a chase joined by other troopers on Interstate 395 south.

Police say the 44-year-old Keith rammed police vehicles and pursued an officer who was outside his vehicle. He was taken to Backus Hospital where he was treated and released to State Police custody.

A trooper was treated for minor injuries at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.

A passenger in Keith’s car was not injured and has not been charged.

It was not known Sunday if Keith is represented by a lawyer.
