Hartford Police ID Man Found In House With Animals

Hartford police have identified the man found dead inside a Banister Street home Friday afternoon. Lieutenant Brian Foley says 50-year-old Anthony Arena was found during a well-being check.
Foley says an initial investigation suggests Arena died from an accidental drug overdose, but authorities are waiting for confirmation from the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Police had classified the death as suspicious, but said homicide was not suspected.
Firefighters used fans and air tanks to enter the home at 118 Banister Street around 1:30 p.m. Friday after finding several dozen poorly cared for cats and several birds inside the house. An elderly woman was taken to the hospital from the home several days before.
