Police: Suspect Drove Vehicle Into Store; Peeled Banana; Ate Banana

NEWINGTON (CBS Connecticut) — Newington Police are looking for a banana thief.

Police were called to the Citgo station on Cedar Street shortly before 2:00 a.m. for a report of an active burglar alarm.  Officers arriving at the scene found damage to the doors, and upon reviewing the sureillance video, found a suspect had backed into the store entrance several times with a light-colored Ford Freestyle station wagon with Connecticut license plates.  He entered the store, took a banana from the shelf, and peeled and ate it before leaving.  Police say nothing else was taken.

They released images from the security camera video showing the suspect.  Police say the vehicle had damage to the rear bumper and tail light on the driver’s side. A police spokesman tells WTIC News it was “definitely unusual.  We haven’t had one like that before.”

Newington Police ask that anyone with information (860) 666-8445.
