HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is lauding state employees for donating more than $17,000 and collecting more than 4,000 pounds of food for the Connecticut Food Bank and Foodshare.

The food and money collected are enough to provide about 52,000 meals to needy people across Connecticut including children, working parents, seniors and people with disabilities.

This holiday season marked the 30th annual Governor’s Care & Share campaign. The Department of Correction raised $8,000, the most of any state agency.

Malloy is scheduled to honor state employees for their participation during a ceremony at the state Capitol on Monday. Foodshare President Gloria McAdam and Nancy Carrington, the president and CEO of Connecticut Food Bank, are scheduled to be on hand for the event.
