Crash Kills East Hartford Man

NORWALK, Conn. (AP) _ A man is dead after a minivan he was driving crashed into the wheels of a tractor-trailer that was transporting U.S. Mail in Norwalk.

Police say 43-year-old Fernando Damasco-Baustita of East Hartford was driving north on Route 7 Connector early Friday. The tractor-trailer was traveling west on Grist Mill

Road and was preparing to take a left turn onto the southbound lanes of Route 7 Connector when the minivan slammed into the truck.

Damasco-Bautista suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead later at Norwalk Hospital. Police identified the driver of the tractor-trailer as a 54-year-old Norwalk resident. He suffered a non-life threatening injury.

Investigators at the scene say an ice sheet covered the road, even though it had been salted before the crash.
The investigation continues.
