The head of the state’s largest police organization is set to step down.

The Hartford Courant reports that State Police Commissioner Reuben Bradford submitted a letter to Governor Dannel Malloy earlier this week announcing he was retiring from his post, ending a three-year tenure.

He was the first African-American to serve as commissioner.
