Former Olympic/UConn Swimmer Charged With Larceny
STORRS, Conn. (AP) _ A 19-year-old former Olympian from Suriname faces larceny and other charges in the use of credit cards owned by a teammate on the UConn swim team.
Diguan Denzel Pigot was arraigned Wednesday in Rockville Superior Court.
UConn police say Pigot made purchases totaling $12,631 using the cards between Sept. 2, 2012, and May 21 of this year, and tried to make another $26,631 in illegal purchases that were canceled.
Pigot’s attorney, Frank Russo, tells The Journal Inquirer (http://bit.ly/1fa6baW) that Pigot is cooperating in their investigation.
Police say he acknowledged setting up accounts on various websites using his teammate’s credit card information.
Russo says Pigot was dismissed from UConn and is now at the University of Miami in Florida.
Pigot competed in the 100-meter breaststroke for Suriname at the 2012 London Olympics.
