HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ An emergency energy assistance program is releasing its annual report that shows the gap between energy prices in Connecticut and how much families can pay.

Officials at Operation Fuel say there continues to be “a substantial gap” between what lower income households in the state pay for energy and what they can afford this winter. They said the affordability problem also affects moderate-income families and senior citizens.

Operation Fuel has scheduled a news conference on Thursday to release its 2013 Home Energy Affordability Gap Connecticut report.

Operation Fuel is a nonprofit organization that provides energy assistance through a state network of more than 100 fuel banks to lower-income working families, the elderly and people with disabilities who are in financial crisis and ineligible for energy assistance offered by government-funded programs.
